I'm trying to learn Spanish by watching telenovelas. Please share your comments about the shows, too. I know I'm not the only English-speaking person who's hooked on telenovelas!

Juan Querendon recap for Tuesday, October 9

Before getting Paula on the couch, Cesar Luis said his marriage was definitely over, or words to that effect. When he called Paula's relationship with Juan "a circus," Paula jumped off the couch and said she had feelings for Juan. Cesar L. said, "This guy isn't for you, and we both know it."

Paula retorted that Juan was a man who knew how to surprise a woman, and not the way Cesar Luis did! They squabbled a little more and Cesar L. left her office.

Alirio brought Gutierrez (Guti) home to dinner. Nidia welcomed him, saying Yadira had been primping for him all day. She went upstairs to get Yadira, who asked if Nidia was sure Enrique was coming tonight, too. Nidia said yes.

Downstairs, Marely coldly told Guti that Yadira didn't like him. Alirio insisted that Yadira had told him otherwise. Yadira came downstairs dressed in a skirt even shorter than Paula's and wowed Guti.

Juan and Enrique's teacher gave the class a test and told them they had half an hour to complete it. The class grumbled. Juan stood up and said half an hour wasn't enough. The teacher asked, "Oh, you speak for everyone now?"

Juan prayed, "Free us, Lord, from a woman scorned!" He looked to the class for support, but no one (including Enrique) said anything. The teacher said thanks to Senor Dominguez's interruption, the class now had only 20 minutes to do the test!

After class, Juan called Enrique a coward for not speaking up. Enrique said yes, that's why he didn't speak up, because he is a coward.

Back at Nidia's dinner table, Guti offered to organize a trip to his ranch for the whole family. Alirio enthusiastically agreed.

Juan arrived with Enrique, who wasn't happy to see Guti with Yadira. Nidia took Enrique into her office and told him Guti was an "important person" who was interested in Yadira. She said Enrique must be jealous, because "where a fire was, embers remain," but Enrique denied it.

He asked why Nidia had invited him over. Nidia said she couldn't remember why. She stood up to leave, saying she had to go back to her yerno (son-in-law), then pretended that oops! she hadn't meant to say that. Enrique looked insanely jealous.

The next day at breakfast, Monica told Cesar Luis that their marriage was crumbling and she thought he was in love with Paula. He, of course, denied it, saying he didn't get along with Paula, that Monica was the one who always wanted to talk about Paula. He asked if Monica was convinced that she was imagining things. Monica said, "Maybe." Cesar Luis stormed out of the room.

It must be the weekend because Paula is wearing her sweater. The one that actually covers all her assets. Anyway, Ana coldly asked about her new ring. Paula admitted it was a gift from Juan, "We are novios." Ana said sarcastically, "How romantic." Paula insisted that she felt "something special" for Juan, more than friendship, there was an attraction between them. Ana repeated that Paula was just using Juan.

Paula asked Ana to give her a little time to work things out. Ana retorted that she was going to Monterrey tomorrow and would be gone for a week or more. She said they could use that time apart to think so they wouldn't end up hating each other. Paula hugged her. Ana thawed out a little but was obviously still angry.

Monica called Paula and said she had to speak to her, it was urgent. Paula agreed to meet her.

Juan arrived at the Cachon breakfast table in a sleeveless shirt (why is it only cold at Paula's house?) and made a big point of showing off his tattoo to the whole family. Marely, of course, was upset. Yadira looked grim, as always. Juan said he and Paula were in love and would be together forever. Alirio was skeptical. Nidia told Juan, "Forever is a long time. Better be careful."

Juan asked for permission to bring Paula to the house as his future wife. He was surprised that they didn't immediately agree. But then Nidia said of course, "This is your home and you can bring your friends here."

Later Juan went into Marely's room to ask why she was crying. She said it wasn't about the ring, "I always knew that wasn't for me." Juan begged her to tell him what was wrong. For a moment it looked as if Marely was going to tell him the truth about Paula, but she just asked him to leave so she could study.

Nidia caught him in the hallway and asked what he was doing in her daughter's room again. Juan said he would never betray his love for Paula. Nidia seemed to let him go with a warning, then went to comfort Marely. She told Marely, "Right now everything has the color of ant" (??? color de hormiga) but things would get better.

Juan called Paula and invited her and Ana to Nidia's house for dinner. Paula was dismissive, as always, telling him to call her again in the afternoon.

Monica told Cesar L. she was going to the "super" (I suppose that means supermarket). He said he might go to work for an hour. As soon as Monica left, he tried to call Paula. Presumably he got no reply because Paula had already left to meet Monica.

Nidia told Yadira that Juan and Paula had no future together. Yadira demanded to know why Nidia said that, but Nidia wouldn't tell her. Yadira fretted because she hadn't heard from Enrique. Nidia asked if Yadira liked Guti even a little, but Yadira said no, and she didn't want to go to his stupid ranch.

On the landing, Nidia met Juan and asked, "Are you sure this engagement is best for you? Does Paula feel the same about you?"

Meanwhile, Monica and Paula were eating in a restaurant together. Monica said, "I have problems with Cesar Luis." Paula said that had nothing to do with her. (LIAR!!) Monica asked, "Are you and Cesar Luis lovers?"
